Without a water seal, accessories or any complications: how to make the simplest smokehouse?

Photo 1

Smokehouses allow you to prepare food using a special method of heat treatment – smoking. Thanks to it, the products acquire unrivaled taste qualities.

Smokehouses are sold in stores, but anyone can create their own device. Manufacturing technology The device depends on what type of smoking – cold or hot – the equipment will be used for.

What can you use to make a smokehouse at home?

Simple smokehouses are built made of brick or metal. The metal version is more often used for hot smoking, the device can be located in a suburban area or take with you for a picnic in the trunk of a car. For a brick choose a place in advance and equip it. Brick structures are suitable for both hot and cold smoking.

Metal and brick smokehouses consist of from the same elements:

  • from the firebox;
  • from the smoking chamber;
  • from the pallet;
  • from the grid;
  • from the lid.

In devices for hot smoked food is placed directly above the fire, products are treated with heat from the fire.

For devices cold smoked you will also need a chimney, since food is stored in such devices processed with smoke, coming from a firebox located away from the smoking chamber. In a number of drawings, the design of both types of smokehouses includes hooks and frames for cooking fish and meat.

Making a simple smokehouse from bricks

A simple brick smokehouse is installed on the adjacent territory. It is desirable that the smoke from the device did not bother me neither the owners nor their neighbors.

Attention! Since it will be extremely difficult to move a brick structure to another location after manufacturing, it is necessary carefully select a suitable site in advance for the construction of the structure.

Tools and materials

Tools and materials needed to build a simple brick smokehouse:

  • brick;
  • doors;
  • clay mortar;
  • 8 rods;
  • lattice;
  • lid;
  • shovel;
  • level;
  • hammer;
  • spatula.

Selecting a project

The choice of the device design depends on the smoking method the owner prefers. A brick structure for cold smoking provides firebox, extending from it at an angle to the ground chimney and, located above the firebox, smoking chamber. The main material for construction is clay brickIt is not recommended to use silicate bricks, as they release harmful substances when heated.

Construction instructions

To arrange a firebox, a hole is dug in the ground 40 cm deep and 70 cm in diameter. A small gap is left for air intake. A channel for the chimney is broken to the side, depth which is 35 cm, width 55 cm, length 250 cm.

On the other side, the channel “flows” into a pit for the smoking chamber, the height of the latter should be no more than 150 cm.

They are digging a canal at an inclination of up to 8 degrees, this allows smoke and heat to move upwards towards the smoking chamber.

The walls are installed in the channel on a brick base. They are laid "on edge". Height of walls should not exceed 25 cm. The channel is closed from above according to the "house" principle. After the chimney is made, it is necessary to seal all the cracks with clay mortar. When the constructed smoke channel dries, it covered with earth approximately by 10-15 cm.

On one side they put firebox with a door for firewood, on the other - smoking chamber. The brick is laid "on edge" in it. If you make a deeper hole under the smoking chamber, you can arrange a second firebox for hot smoking. In this case, you need to install a 8 rods. 4 rods are located at a height of 70 cm. More 4 rods are installed so that there is space left to the top edge of the chamber 25 cm.

Before installing a brick smokehouse, it is necessary to build foundation. If the structure small, the foundation is being poured to a depth of 30 cm, if the device is different large dimensions — on depth of soil freezing.

How to make a smokehouse from metal without a water seal

A simple metal smokehouse is a convenient device for preparing products using hot smoking. Most often, they are created rectangular device variant made of 2mm thick metal. The material used is resistant to heat and mechanical impact.

Tools

To create a metal smokehouse you will need:

  • stainless steel;
  • welding machine;
  • carpenter's angle;
  • Bulgarian;
  • meter.

Description of the process

In one of the drawings the size two metal sheets at the start-up stage - 61 x 157 cmBoth sheets are cleaned and marked in accordance with the dimensions of the future device.

One sheet cut into 4 parts, they make the body of the smokehouse from them. The parts of the sheet are welded together.

It is important to carefully weld the joints of the smokehouse walls from the inside to ensure tightness constructions. From another sheet cut out bottom, which is welded after the main box is manufactured.

It is cut out from a sheet of stainless steel fragment for the lid. After processing, the sides of the lid are welded 4 strips of metal, and on top is added penThe resulting smokehouse body can be installed on various stands, for example, on a stand made of reinforcement bars.

When the body is ready, it is time to work on the internal structure of the metal smokehouse. Inside the device, grate and trayThe grate is made from a grill grate or wire. made of stainless steelIt is also better to make the tray from stainless steel, since fat from meat or fish will drip onto it during the smoking process.

All elements of the metal smokehouse must easy to connect and firmly fixed. Usually, there is a tray for fat at the bottom of the structure, a grate for products above, the device is closed with a lid. The assembled device is placed on a stand or a stable surface on which a fire is made.

A layer is placed on the bottom of the smokehouse cherry, sea buckthorn, apple, apricot, birch, bird cherry or alder shavings. The smoke from them permeates the products, making them incredibly tasty. You can use such shavings not only in a rectangular smokehouse welded from stainless steel, but also in an improvised version - an iron bucket or barrel.

    I don't understand one thing, why make such a monumental structure for a house, when everything can be done much simpler and cheaper? And the final product will be no worse than the one prepared in such a stationary installation. After all, there are the same smoke generators, and you can cook cold smoked fish. Ultimately, you can make the simplest water seal, if you want cold smoking, or install a long enough pipe so that the smoke reaches the smoking chamber at the right temperature. Moreover, all this can be made collapsible, and depending on what final product you need, you can also use a smokehouse.

    A smokehouse in the garden can be made from an old round washing machine. Remember, our grandmothers had such machines? Fortunately, the lid on top fits tightly enough to the machine, this is one of the main nuances. The motor with the activator is removed. And all we have to do is install it on smoldering coals, and a tin tray with chips on top. In 1-1.5 hours you will have aromatic hot smoked meat or fish.

    Why do all the authors recommend installing brick smokehouses on a powerful slab or monolithic foundation? And even laying the foundation to the depth of soil freezing. Why not consider the option of constructing a smokehouse on a bored pile foundation? Or even simpler - the construction of a foundation from screw piles?
    1. Vitaly Gorshkov
      Laying the foundation to the depth of soil freezing, which for the middle zone is about 1200 mm, is certainly not worth it. It is better to fill the slab foundation reinforced with reinforcement 12-16 mm thick with a grid step of 30-35 cm. For particularly complex and heavy structures under the barbecue walls, tie the reinforcement in two rows, in a box.
      The foundation can easily withstand a load of up to 700 kg per sq. cm.

    Making a smokehouse is probably one of the simplest devices that you can make with your own hands for your home. But you should not forget one thing, that when making a small smokehouse, you should not forget that the smaller the smokehouse, the more strictly you need to observe the temperature regime. Otherwise, you will get just a boiled - smoked product, which will only resemble real smoked meat from afar. Well, for cold smoking, you need to prepare for a relatively long process, and long control over it.
