A plot of 6 acres is not a large enough area to make all your ideas come true.

But beautiful and roomy cold smoking smokehouse can be built.

There are ways to make this design take up as little usable space as possible without losing its performance.

Which smokehouses are more convenient to use at the dacha

When choosing a smokehouse design, you need to start from the fact that how often and in what quantities food will be prepared in ita. If there is someone in the family who is engaged in fishing or hunting, likes to collect mushrooms, a miniature design will not do. You will need a solid and high-quality structure.

If you only visit your dacha occasionally or don’t plan to treat yourself to smoked meats often, the best choice is a good quality portable smokehouse of small size. It is convenient because you can always take it with you. Such devices are equipped smoke generators, which can perform their function without forced air supply (without a compressor). In most cases, they can provide all the possibilities for both cold and hot smoking.

Reference. For a smokehouse with a smoke generator you will need only two things: the smoker itself smoke generator And container for storing food products. This portable design is good in all respects, but it is not very roomy. You can't cook anything in advance on it, but that is not always necessary.

With a skillful approach, a stationary cold smoking smokehouse will not take up much space. Its most massive part is chimney — can be hidden under a layer of soil. It (the chimney), like any engineering life support system (water supply, sewerage, etc.) will not interfere with the cultivation of crops by its presence. In the place of its location, you can dig and break up beds.

DIY Cold Smoking Smokehouse from Foam Blocks

A smokehouse of impressive size can become part of a whole complex of equipment: barbecue, grill, stove. You can make a stationary smokehouse an effective element of a gazebo for relaxation. In any case, you need to learn how to build this assistant from solid materials: concrete, brick and foam block.

Materials that will be needed to set up a smokehouse at your dacha:

  • foam blocks;
  • bricks;
  • the door is wooden or metal;
  • pipes for chimneys and flues;
  • metal gratings;
  • metal rods;
  • lumber for formwork;
  • reinforcement and knitting wire;
  • cement, sand, gravel.

Stages of work:

Drawing up a drawing

The design must necessarily include: firebox, chimney, food chamber, flue pipe. Elements such as doors, shutters and viewing windows are designed by each person in accordance with their capabilities and the design of the garden plot.

Before starting work, the master must know the exact dimensions of each of the main elements. Dimensions of a standard foam block 600x200x300 mm. Smokehouse length 90 cm, width - 120 cm.

Selecting a location

When choosing a location, follow the rule: The smoking chamber must be located above the firebox. If the area has a flat relief, the firebox will have to be deepened artificially by digging a sloping ditch and a hole.

Markup

On the selected site take measurements, install pegs And remove the turf.

The resulting pit is deepened 1/2 bayonet shovel. Level the bottom and compact it. Pour sand into the pit, level it, and compact it. The resulting layer should be about 3-5 cm. Gravel of medium fraction is poured into the pit, leveled and compacted. The layer thickness is 7-8 cm. Formwork is constructed around the perimeter of the pit so that it is above ground level by 20-30 cm.

Two meshes with cells are made from reinforcement rods using knitting wire. 30-40 cm. These grids are connected to each other with vertical rods so that a parallelepiped is formed. The reinforcement can be connected not with wire, but by welding. The reinforcing frame is installed inside the formwork.

Cement (grade not lower than) is placed in a container or concrete mixer. M400, sand - only quarry sand, not river sand), gravel (fine or medium fraction). Proportions - 1:3:4 respectively. Water is added until the required solution thickness is obtained. Mix and pour concrete.

The top layer is leveled and the formwork is covered with polyethylene. This will prevent rapid evaporation of moisture and subsequent cracking of the foundation.

Further work will begin in 5-7 days. If the weather is hot, the concrete is periodically watered. The formwork is dismantled.

Foam block laying

Building stones are laid on a cement-sand mortar or special glue for foam blocks.

1st row: are laid out sequentially 2 foam block on the end (width of the smokehouse), turn on 90°, they put 1.5 foam block on the end, then turn it again 90° and they put more 2 stone opposite the first wall. It should turn out letter "P".

2nd row: repeat the first one, in the far wall (90 cm) cut out a recess for the pipe. Foam block is easy to process, it can be drilled and sawed.

3rd row: install the pipe, fix it in the desired position with the help of stretchers and supports. This is the chimney entrance. A metal grate with a thickness of 6-8 mm.

4th and 5th rows: build up letter "P" two more rows of foam blocks.

6th row: similar to the 5th. Along the wall width 90 cm 3 metal rods are placed at equal distances from each other.

Rows 7-9: lay out the foam blocks. After completing the 9th row, repeat the same as the 6th row - lay out 3 metal rods.

10th row: laying foam blocks.

11th row: installed on top of foam blocks 4 metal corners so that they serve as a support for the building stones laid between them. In this way, the base of the smokehouse roof is constructed. The foam blocks are tied together with wire. In the middle of the roof, a hole with a cross-section of 5-7 cm. They insert a pipe - the future smoke exhaust. On the inside of the smokehouse, under the smoke exhaust hole, they make a metal damper.

Concreting the roof

Planed boards are attached along the perimeter of the roof: formwork is made. Concrete is poured, the top layer is leveled. Through 3-4 days dismantling the formwork.

Install the door and latch. At a distance of more than 3 meters, begin laying the firebox from bricks. Connect the smoking chamber and the firebox with a chimney.

To hide the chimney in the ground, you will need a pipe with a knee. It is walled into the wall of the smoking chamber. The final stage of the work is smokehouse exterior finish. There is no point in painting foam blocks: this will not solve the problem of their unsightly dull appearance. A small building can be covered with porcelain stoneware, cement particle board, siding (not vinyl), clapboard, or corrugated sheet.

How to make a mobile country smokehouse

To set up a portable smokehouse for your summer house, you will need a large metal container. You can take a tank with a capacity of 50-60 l or cut off half of the barrel. At the bottom of the container they make hole for pipe, the cross-section of which is equal to the diameter of the coupling. They begin to manufacture the smoke generator.

Photo 3. A finished cold smoking smokehouse made from a metal barrel. A smoke generator made from tin cans is attached to it.

Step 1. They take 3 large tin cans, cut off the bottom of two of them. Place the cans on top of each other (the bottom one with the bottom) and tighten them with strips of tin so that you get a pipe with a bottom.

Step 2. They take metal coupling, using a nut, they fasten it to the bottom of the pipe, having previously cut a hole.

Step 3. On the back side of the smoke generator, opposite the exhaust hole, insert a tube to which the hose from aquarium compressor. Holes are made in the lower part of the pipe for draft and ignition of the shavings.

Attention! The only fire hazard that can occur is if the smoke generator with smoldering sawdust accidentally tips over. This situation is unlikely, but before using this homemade device it is recommended check the strength of all its connections.

Next, the smoke generator is attached to the tank using a nut. The smokehouse is installed on a brick platform and a fat tray, grates, rods for hanging fish, meat and lard are placed in the container.

    I don't smoke very often, so I made a smokehouse for cold smoking from scrap materials. I dug a hole and lined it with bricks, and covered it with a metal sheet on top. I laid a metal pipe with a diameter of 125 mm and a length of 4 m at an angle and inserted it through the elbow into a 200-liter barrel. That's the whole simple design from what was at hand.

    We made it from foam blocks. It turned out to be a beautiful and convenient structure, we lock it, we were afraid that rodents would get through, so we made it hermetically sealed. On the outside, we covered it with ordinary clapboard and treated it with impregnation. But our site is sloping, we didn’t have to deepen the firebox, we just used the natural relief.

    Building a smokehouse from foam blocks is, in my opinion, clearly too much, especially for home use. It's a different matter if you're smoking for sale and plan to smoke all year round. But then it would be better to buy a factory-made smokehouse.
    But for home smoking it is more profitable to build something less capital.

      This type of smokehouse is very suitable for people living in rural areas and engaged in livestock farming. They have no problems with the volume of meat, and sometimes they need to smoke a lot. It makes no sense for them to go and buy a smokehouse of unknown quality if there is a building material closer. But I have doubts about the harmlessness of such a smokehouse made of foam blocks.
