Cooking in a cauldron requires high heat and even distribution heat.

Homemade cauldron ovens are made durable enough to withstand the weight of the cast iron and the food being cooked, they are only allowed to be made from heat-resistant materials - iron or brick.

Description of different cauldron ovens

In general, the furnace is a cylinder. about half a meter high with a hole at the top where the cauldron goes in at least 2/3 of its height.

The grate is located under the bottom of the cookware at such a distance that the heat of the flame evenly covers its bottom and walls.

There are several manufacturing options cauldron ovens at home:

  • made of metal;
  • from car disks;
  • with a gas burner.

Made of metal

The furnace design is a cylinder diameter 30 cm And height up to 0.5 m. Instead of the bottom, a grate is inserted - a grate on which solid fuel (wood or coal) is burned. A hole is made in the lid, suitable for the upper diameter of the cauldron so that its edges rise above the lid by 2-4 cm. The working chamber cylinder is installed on three welded supports.

Metal stove freely moves to any place on the summer cottage plot, unlike stone stationary structures. The working chamber of the furnace quickly melts and heats up, allowing you to save fuel.

Reference. The disadvantage of the device is no direct chimneyInstalling a pipe will make the structure heavier and more complicated, and the smoke exhaust through the holes under the lid will interfere with cooking.

From car disks

Another version of the oven is two longitudinally welded disks, one of which the damper is cut out. The unit has small dimensions and weight, which allows you to transport it in the trunk of a car. The material for the stove is the most economical, and the simplicity of the design will allow even an inexperienced craftsman to make the device in a few hours.

Important! The diameter of the upper part and the bulges inside the disk do not allow any cauldron to be installed in such a device, so before choosing this option Find out the dimensions of the existing dishes and discs.

Small holes around the top and bottom of the stove create good draft without interfering with cooking.

Gas

A stove with a gas burner is made of metal or brick, differing from other options in the type of fuel. Gas unit has a smaller height, than a wood or iron device, is mounted on a tripod. The main advantages of such furnaces include:

  • ease of use;
  • the ability to precisely regulate the combustion temperature;
  • small size.

Gas combustion in the furnace is maintained using portable household cylinders. weighing 5-10 kg, which are connected via a special hose at the place where food is prepared.

Attention! The use of gas furnaces requires increased attention and compliance with fire safety regulations.

The stability of combustion is largely determined by the quality of the soldering of the incoming gas valve with the burner nozzle. Manufacturing of a stove with a gas burner requires quality materials And responsible approach of the master.

How to make a stove for a cauldron with your own hands

The first stage of stove construction will be the selection of a project. The master selects a drawing taking into account the following factors:

  • planned frequency of use;
  • installation location;
  • preferred fuel;
  • financial capabilities.

A welded metal firebox is suitable for a summer house from a thick pipe or sheet iron - it can be installed anywhere on the site for the entire season, using the body as a barbecue or smokehouse if necessary, by removing the lid with the hole and installing the grate.

Firebox made of disks The car is used both for the summer plot and for trips out of town. Gas cylinder It is also suitable for a summer house and a picnic, but requires regular refilling of the cylinder.

Selection of materials

The preparation of materials for a metal furnace depends on the availability of the possibility of their processing.

For small units that are supposed to be moved frequently, sheet metal is suitable. steel thickness 1.5-2.0 mm.

For larger stationary devices for permanent installation, a steel or iron 2-4 mm thick (you can use a piece of pipe of the required diameter).

In addition to the material for the main body the master will need:

  • welding machine;
  • Bulgarian;
  • door hinges;
  • reinforcement bars 12-16 mm;
  • three short thick pieces of steel for supports (from 30 mm);
  • metal corners;
  • hammer;
  • roulette;
  • level.

Doors are made from cut pieces of sheet metal, if desired. You can buy factory ones.

Reference. The supports are made from a pipe with a diameter of 25-35 mm and wall thickness not less than 2.5 mm.

Procedure

Installation ovens occurs in the following order:

  1. Selecting and cutting a rectangular sheet of steel thickness 1.5-2.5 mm.
  2. Cutting holes for the firebox and ash pit from the sheet with the following dimensions: 30X15 and 30X10 cm respectively.

Photo 6

  1. Using a grinder, make three corner holes in the top of the sheet to release smoke height 2-4 cm.
  2. Rolling the sheet into a cylinder. For this, a vertical pipe or pole is used, firmly dug into the ground. One narrow edge of the sheet is pressed against the pipe lengthwise, the other is wrapped around it.
  3. After the sheet is twisted, the seam is welded and reinforced for greater reliability. three or four corners.
  4. A grate made of reinforcing bars is welded into the finished cylinder. at a distance of 7-10 mm from each other.
  5. A solid round sheet is welded on the bottom.
  6. Supports are welded to the bottom on three sides so that the angle between them when viewed from above is 120 degrees.
  7. The stove is placed vertically and its stability is checked.
  8. Hinges and doors are welded to the openings of the firebox and ash pit.
  9. Handles made from reinforcing bars are welded to the upper edges.

The length of the sides of the cut sheet depends on the selected oven size, recommended values: length 1 m And width 0.5 m. The holes for the ash pit and firebox are adjacent with their short sides to the narrow part of the sheet and are located one above the other at a distance 2-3 cm from the long edge of the sheet and from each other.

Grate bars are welded with two transverse rods, and from the resulting structure a circle is cut out, which is secured to the corners welded from the inside between the firebox window and the ash pit.

Important! The angle of inclination of the supports to the horizon is selected within the limits 60-80 degrees when viewed from the side, the recommended length of the supports is 20-40 cm.

Factory door hinges can be replaced with a bolt and nut diameter 10-12 mm. To do this, the nut is screwed onto the bolt halfway, after which the head of the bolt is welded to the edge of the firebox opening, and the edge of the nut to the door, each of which must be secured with two bolts.

If the dimensions of the cauldron are smaller than the diameter of the upper open part, then A circle is attached to the top, in which a suitable hole is cut.

Instead of cutouts at the top of the cylinder for the traction, you can make a slot diameter 100 mm and weld the chimney pipe.

Manufacturing of a gas furnace

The body is made in the manner described above, but with a number of adjustments:

  • cylinder height — 0.3 m;
  • lack of grate;
  • instead of two holes for the firebox and the blower, one is cut out - for the burner, 30 cm long And 3 cm wide.

The hole is made at the level 1-2 cm from the bottom of the body. For the burner, a thin metal tube with a diameter of 5-6 mm and twisted into a spiral. The end of the tube on the spiral is clogged, and holes (burner nozzles) are made in a circle with a drill 1 mm.

The other end of the tube is moved away to a distance 30 cm from the stove, and a special gas valve is soldered to it. The manufacture of supports, bottom and cover is the same as in a wood-burning iron stove.

Safe gas connection

Photo 8

The first connection is made in an open space, wearing protective glasses. Connection procedure:

  1. inspect all gas pipeline metal connections;
  2. make sure of cylinder serviceability;
  3. make sure that inlet tap fireboxes and outlet valve balloon closed;
  4. connect a hose with a cylinder, and the other end with a furnace valve;
  5. before opening the gas smear with soapy water connecting the hose to the cylinder and to the oven;
  6. open cylinder valve half and check with a soap solution to see if there is a gas leak;
  7. open the stove tap and set fire to gas.

Attention! The gas is ignited no earlier than 15 seconds after the stove valve is opened to evenly fill the nozzle and tube with fuel.

The cylinder is connected in the absence of open fire sources at a distance 10 meters.

Possible difficulties

During production, there is a risk of encountering the following troubles:

  • poor quality of welded seams;
  • the grate gets stuck when lowered into the cylinder;
  • lack of structural stability;
  • the release of an unpleasant odor during cooking.

A common cause of poor weld penetration is Incorrect choice of welding electrodes. To avoid this, you can select their markings according to the thickness of the metal being welded.

Important! For iron, steel and stainless steel sheet different electrodes are required, and the corners must be made of the same metal as the furnace cylinder.

To prevent the grate from getting stuck in the middle of the cylinder, its dimensions are selected based on 5-10 mm smaller than the inner diameter of the housing.

Photo 9

Instability The design is caused by the incorrect choice of the angle of inclination of the supports. The higher and narrower the cylinder, the straighter the legs of the stove should be.

Unpleasant smell inside often appears if the iron with poorly cleaned paint was used for the structure, so before rolling the sheet for the body it burned with a blowtorch.

Advantages of homemade devices

DIY cauldron stove is not inferior in reliability to the factory one and allows you to save money significantly, as it is often made from scrap materials. The design of a homemade oven is selected based on the individual needs and capabilities of the lover of dishes from a cauldron, and the manufacture of the structure takes from several hours to 2-3 days.

    In order to prevent smoke from stinging the cook's eyes, a section of pipe for a chimney can be cut into the back of the oven. In this case, the smoke will come out through the pipe. A hole must be cut in the oven using electric welding, in accordance with the diameter of the pipe, at a height of about 150 mm from the top of the oven.

    The most budget stove made of car disks is installed. If you want the same, then do not take cast disks, they will not last long, but stamped ones will last you many years. And also be sure to sand the disks, well, and choose the radius appropriate for the pot. And I do not advise painting them, the smell is specific later when cooking.
