Cooking over an open fire is a popular process in private or country houses and summer cottages.

The most common types of units for creating delicious dishes are considered to be classic outdoor stove, design with hob, barbecue, grill, oven or stove-fireplace.

Most often, such devices are placed in gazebos, as well as in open spaces.

Types of outdoor stoves for summer cottages

Outdoor stoves come in various designs, differing in purpose.

Classical

Photo 2

This type of stove is the easiest to implement and relatively unpretentious structure, which can be heated with almost any material (from specially prepared coal to dead wood collected around the site).

Among the features of such a device, In addition to using any fuel material, it should be noted:

  • ease of laying and the possibility of using broken materials in construction;
  • relatively small size;
  • cost-effectiveness of construction - the total number of whole bricks is about 200-250 pieces;
  • the design is unpretentious for use in various weather conditions.

The standard diagram of such a stove looks like this (from bottom to top):

  • ash pit;
  • smoke channel;
  • firebox;
  • a hob or cooktop for cooking - installed during assembly, made of metal, burners are installed if necessary;
  • An additional tabletop can be installed if desired.

This design looks rather rough, but it is small in size. At the same time, the stove provides the ability to cook various types of food. The size, taking into account the height of the chimney, is from 120 to 150 cm, optimal chimney height does not exceed 40 cm (this height is sufficient to ensure good traction).

Photo 3

The ashpit and firebox are located at a height of two or three brick rows from the foundation.

Firebox size is determined depending on the purposes of the furnace operation, as well as on the efficiency factor incorporated into the design.

With hob

This option also belongs to one of the simplest designs. More often, such a stove is built based on a rough stove, which explains the relative unpretentiousness of the device and its small size.

Reference. This oven got its name from the rough and simple mechanism of laying — "groovy" or oven-groovy.

Key feature of the structure - using a hob or stove made of metal.

Depending on whether the hob is intended to be used only for cooking by the "slow fire" method or by extinguishing, or also implies the use of open fire, the design of the hob differs.

Photo 4

If you do not plan to use an open fire, then a metal plate will be solid without additional burner holes.

If an open fire is intended for use, special holes are made in the stove, which will be covered with lids during “slow fire” or stewing.

The dimensions of the stove vary depending on the size of the hob, its minimum values are 400 x 400 mm. The height, as for the stove-heater together with the chimney, is from 120 to 150 cm.

The design diagram is similar to the drawing of the stove-cooker, with the obligatory addition of a cooking surface fixed above the firebox. at a height of 4-5 brick rows.

With barbecue

This design is a complex structure that is used not only for cooking in a barbecue. The oven is often erected in the form of a multifunctional device with the addition of a cooking surface, as well as the creation of a smoking chamber.

Such a stove has large dimensions, as it combines several cooking devices. The height is determined by the number of rows, which varies from 23 to 27 from the foundation (taking into account the erected chimney). The width of the stove is about 89-90 cm, length - approximately 140 cm, total area of the base is 12600 cm2.

Among the design features, it is necessary to note the mandatory construction of a massive foundation, since the total weight of the entire structure is quite large.

Photo 1. Outdoor brick oven with a barbecue. The device also includes a smoking chamber.

The diagram looks like this:

  • blower with smoke channels;
  • a firebox divided by a smoke tooth into two chambers, the second one works to remove excess smoke into the chimney;
  • chimney;
  • hob (when creating a multifunctional design);
  • barbecue;
  • A grate is installed between the ash pit and the firebox.

This type of oven can be designed with a small chimney modification, thanks to which a smoking chamber is created in it.

With barbecue

This type of stove is a simpler option than a device with a barbecue. However, it has a feature that significantly complicates the construction procedure - over a steel plate for cooking it is necessary to erect an arch or other covering, which can protect the product being prepared from the negative impact of weather conditions.

Dimensions of the structure - width of the order 90 cm, length - about 180 cm, height (including chimney) — from 160 to 185 cm. The total number of rows is 27 in height.

Photo 6

During construction It is not necessary to use fireclay bricks, since there is no direct contact between the brick and an open flame.

The possibility of eliminating the use of fireproof materials allows for a reduction in construction costs.

The diagram of the barbecue oven looks like this:

  • ash pit;
  • smoke channels and chimney;
  • firebox with grate;
  • a place for placing a dish being prepared;
  • a metal rod can be installed in the chimney to secure the product being smoked (meat or fish);
  • There is a protective arched vault above the cooking chamber.

If desired by the builder and user of the stove, the device can be equipped with additional hob, which complicates the design due to the need to create another smoke channel.

With oven

The stove with oven, erected outdoors, is one of the most difficult options, the manufacture of which is best left to professionals. This is due to the fact that the oven is installed in the stove at the construction stage, and it is extremely rare to create it from brick. The only option for constructing such a structure from brick can be the installation of a sealed metal door, which is quite difficult.

Photo 7

The dimensions of the oven vary depending on the dimensions specified for the built-in oven.

General parameters may vary. from 90 to 130 cm in width, from 130 to 190 cm in length and up to 200 cm in height (taking into account the height of the chimney).

The stove design will differ from others in that instead of an open space for cooking, there is an oven or other chamber above the firebox.

How to build a country stove for the street with your own hands

The entire construction process, regardless of what particular structure is chosen for construction, consists of the traditional five stages:

  1. selection of construction project;
  2. determining the location of the stove taking into account its dimensions, as well as the possibility of ensuring maximum fire safety of the structure;
  3. preparation of materials and tools;
  4. preparation of the selected location for the stove;
  5. construction from pouring the foundation to installing the chimney cap.

Project

This is the first stage in the construction of an outdoor stove. When developing a suitable option, the following should be taken into account:

Photo 8

  • possible options for using the device;
  • budget;
  • the presence of an optimal location of the structure at a distance from other buildings to avoid the threat of fire;
  • the possibility of installing a gazebo or recreation area around the stove.

Choosing a location for the stove

When choosing a place where you plan to build a stove, you need to consider that open flames may constantly or periodically occur. This increases the risk of fires. For this reason, when choosing a place there should be no contact between the structure and flammable structures.

Attention! It is important to consider the overall weight of the device, which can play a negative role when the structure is located on floating soils or at an angle. Due to the large weight, placement on unstable or uneven surfaces may cause the destruction of the building.

The choice of construction site is also influenced by stove size, since with large dimensions the area involved must also be quite large.

Materials and tools

In preparation for construction the selection of materials must be carried out carefully, since such a structure is affected not only from the inside, but also from the outside (various weather conditions).

The necessary materials include:

Photo 9

  • fireclay brick — for areas in direct contact with open fire;
  • facing brick — for the construction of stove walls;
  • clay for mixing the solution;
  • cement, sand and crushed stone for the foundation;
  • reinforcement — both for the foundation and for creating a smokehouse, if necessary;
  • grate;
  • firebox doors, ash pit And additional cameras;
  • metal hob (when taken into account in the design).

The following tools are considered necessary:

  • buckets (for water and bulk materials);
  • shovel;
  • hammer;
  • drill with drill bits for metal and stone.

Preparing a site for construction

This stage is relatively short in duration, but quite a lot of work is carried out during it.

Site preparation includes the following actions:

  1. clearing the area of possible debris, as well as removing trees and bushes that may interfere with construction;
  2. leveling the surface for the correct positioning of the entire stove;
  3. digging a pit for the foundation.

Reference. At this stage, construction can also be carried out gazebo outline, if the stove is built into this outdoor structure.

Construction

The construction of the stove looks like this:

Photo 10

  1. pouring the foundation;
  2. laying the foundation;
  3. laying of the ash pit and smoke channels;
  4. installation of the firebox and grate;
  5. installation of a hob;
  6. construction of a chimney and exhaust pipe.

The foundation must be a massive support that can not only withstand the total weight of the structure, but also protect it from possible destruction due to soil movements. It is prepared as follows:

  1. in accordance with the specified dimensions of the furnace with an increase by 400 mm a foundation pit is dug along the length and width (its approximate depth is a shovel blade - 30 cm);
  2. half of the pit is filled with sand to create a sand cushion;
  3. crushed stone is poured from above up to the level of the edge of the soil;
  4. formwork is mounted at a height from 8 to 15 cm, inside which cement mortar is poured and reinforced with metal rods on top.

Each row of the stove is placed on clay or fireclay mortar, to avoid cracking when heated. The order of laying bricks is determined depending on what element will be created at a particular stage.

Important! When laying bricks, each subsequent row is leveled and checked. using a level and a plumb lineIf a skew is detected before the mortar hardens, the bricks must be leveled.

Possible complications

Certain difficulties may arise during construction:

  • long hardening of the solution and its cracking — can be avoided by creating an optimal temperature, for example, by gradually heating the structure using heating devices, as well as when carrying out construction in the warm season;
  • deformation of rows of bricks due to non-compliance with laying technology — only at the construction stage is it possible to make corrections until the solution dries, and later — dismantling the entire structure;
  • lack of draft due to improper laying of the chimney — can be corrected by creating new technological holes or by forming forced draft using an electric hood.

How long does it take to build a summer outdoor oven?

Brick ovens built for cooking outdoors come in a variety of designs and can take different amounts of time to build - from a week to several months. First heating the constructed stove is carried out only after the mortar in the masonry has completely dried, that is, no less than in 4-5 days since the completion of construction.

    I always dreamed of having an outdoor stove, but a big stove requires a lot of bricks and effort. With a friend at the dacha we built a mini stove-barbecue. The main function of the stove is cooking on the hob. To make shashlik or barbecue, just remove the hob, put a couple of bricks in the firebox and install the grate on them. That's it, nothing complicated. And eating outdoors in such a stove is simply magical.

    Fans of Caucasian cuisine can install a tandoor oven at their dacha. Meat, poultry, vegetables, and fish are cooked in it. Bread is cooked directly on the walls of the oven, but this requires skill. A cauldron can be installed on top and pilaf or broth can be cooked. A simple version of such an oven can be made from a metal barrel, coated with clay. But such a unit is not durable.

    It is worth noting that for the construction of outdoor stoves it is necessary to use clay stove bricks, well-annealed. For small simple stoves with a hob, you can even use hollow ones. It is not advisable to build on fireclay, because it cracks in the cold. Sand-lime bricks are absolutely not suitable for building stoves.
